Tsunami dock

A guest who's been staying at the shanty this winter (a biologist from the University of Montana) forwarded the following release about the "tsunami dock" that is sure to become a major tourist attraction on the central Oregon coast. The Hatfield Marine Science Center is located about 10 miles north on Hwy. 101 from the shanty.

As you may know, HMSC (Sea Grant and the Director's office) is installing the 'tsunami dock' exhibit in front of the Visitor Center this week, and will host an official opening on Sunday March 10 from 2-4pm in the Visitor Center. The piece will arrive on Friday morning to be installed on the beautiful concrete base poured this week by Jim Lewis and his crew.

Meanwhile, a new article from the University of Oregon came to our attention through a HMSC Volunteer. It tells the story of the dock and what it meant to the surf clam and squid fisherman of Misawa who relied on it right up til the day it was ripped loose and sent on its journey to Newport.
